Toronto is about to get a little more colourful this weekend as 15,000 free tulips are handed out at Nathan Phillips Square.
Toronto Tulip Day is returning once again, bringing together flowers, history, and a reminder of the long friendship between Canada and the Netherlands.
The Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Toronto will give away thousands of tulips as a living symbol of Dutch gratitude to Canada. The event marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands during the Second World War, made possible in part through the sacrifice and efforts of Canadian soldiers and citizens.
The celebration also coincides with Dutch Heritage Month in Ontario, turning Nathan Phillips Square into one of the city’s most vibrant spring gatherings filled with flowers, photos, and a festive atmosphere.
And since the tulips are completely free, organizers recommend arriving early before supplies run out.
